Microsoft Security Bulletins and Updates:
Patch Tuesday, the second Tuesday of every month, in February brought 12 Critical Updates affecting all current operating systems. This round of patches will keep System and Technology Engineers days to weeks to completely test against all systems in their care.

Current Virus, Worm and Trojans Threats:
Microsoft issued a warning that Rootkits may affect many, if not most computers in the near future. Rootkits are programs written by programmers with illegal and malicious intent. These Rootkits are system files that open ports on affected machines for the purpose of giving unauthorized and complete access and sometimes control.

Current Spyware, Adware, Phishing and Keystroke Logger Threats:
As is always the case, be very careful of who you give personal information to. Citi, in its effort to stop Phishing, has stopped sending a link to your logon page with their statement announcements. You must now browse to the legitimate Citi site for access.

Security Threats Defined:

Virus – a program written to cause damage or spread itself through e-mail with little or no help from users.

Worm – a virus that can spread through the internet and networks without the need for e-mail to send itself.

Phishing – fishing, by the bad guys, for your personal information; credit card, social security and bank account number, along with the usernames and passwords to use them.

Keystroke Logger – program used by the bad guys to record the keys you type on the computer. This information, your personal information; credit card, social security and bank account number, along with the usernames and passwords to use them is then sent back to the bad guys for later use.
