Ten Things You Should Know When Buying a Computer
- A new computer is not safe and secure out of the box. It takes less than sixteen minutes, on average, for a new computer to become infected with some form of malware from the internet.
- You can never buy too much memory (RAM).
- Windows XP Pro SP2 is the best Microsoft Operating system you can buy. The difference in price is around $100; it’s worth it.
- Always have a data backup system for you computer.
- The three or four year warranty is worth the cost.
- Uninstall any preinstalled software that you will never use.
- When shopping, keep in mind what the computer will be used for during the next 3-4 years.
- Install and use a software firewall, antivirus and anti spyware/adware software.
- Do not let kids use a computer that will be used for finances (Quicken or Money) and on-line banking.
